Lane Cove Council

Every development application and planning proposal lodged with Lane Cove Council, tracked daily from the NSW Planning Portal — and what share of it actually gets built.

Lane Cove Council determines a development application in a median of 50 days6 days faster than the NSW median of 56.

Measured across 119 determined development applications, last 12 months · 3,039 applications on record · 29 planning proposals · 44,521 people · 15,420 dwellings

Housing approved since 1 July 2024 · updated 15 Sept 2026

695 homes have been approved here

Counted from 495 of 607 determined applications — the ones stating a number of new homes, which for many of them is zero. The other 112 leave the field blank, and blank is not a zero. Applicants recorded 743; 48 homes are not counted here, from 3 applications whose own figures cannot be true.

44 still to be decided · 7% · 231 homes582 determined · 89% · 536 homes24 withdrawn or stopped · 4% · 67 homes

231 homes are still waiting on a decision. This is every application lodged since 1 July 2024 and where it stands today — the homes figure beside it covers applications determined in the same period, which is a different set.

NSW’s housing target

NSW asks Lane Cove Council for 3,400 homes by June 2029

That target counts homes finished; everything above counts applications. A home can be approved and never built, and NSW measures the target against ABS completions data that Lodgd does not hold. The two are not a percentage of one another.

Approved is not built

Across NSW, only 50% of approved homes reach construction within two years.

An approval is not a house. Lodgd matches every application to the construction certificates that follow it, site by site, across all 128 councils — so the pipeline can be read as what is likely to exist rather than what was lodged.

Every council, the same way

How we count. These figures count homes written on development applications and complying development certificates lodged with Lane Cove Council and published on the NSW Planning Portal. NSW’s Housing Supply Dashboard counts something different. Across NSW the two land within 6% of each other; council by council they differ by more than 20% about half the time, and in both directions — for some councils NSW’s figure is far higher, for others far lower. Ours is checked application by application against the Planning Portal itself, and matches it exactly in every council tested. Lodgd publishes what is in the applications, and says so rather than adjusting to match.
